First training of 2025 and Trophy Race

Published Sun 12 Oct 2025

Training kicked off with some reasonable weather with the new trainees introduced to the boats and a trip on the water. After lunch we had just one trophy race with a cold day making waiting around for a second start not very attractive.

A reasonable fleet of five Sabres four NS14s and two B14s headed out initially in a light breeze but before we could lay a course and get a start in the breeze freshened to about 15knots with  bigger gusts from the SW and it was pretty cold.

After waiting for the wind to settle we got a start away at 13:54 with a pretty even spread across the line, by the top mark the two B14s had streached out a lead with Phantom short tacking and getting inside Early Warning to be first around the top mark. Serenity was first NS and TBA the first Sabre. By the bottom mark Early Warning had taken the lead from Phantom and led, as the breeze slowly died, through the sausage and triangle  to the bottom mark the last time but unfortunatly fell into a hole while Phantom came around in a light southerly and nearly laid the finish  on one tack to get the gun one minute 30 clear of Early Warning with Serenity the first of the NS14s and Pumpkin Eater next the first Sabre was TBA five minutes clear of Apisca II.

Handicap Results

Phantom Steve Miller and Safiya Davidson first, Serenity Scott Wilkie and Isobel Healey second and Under the Radar Melinda Lord and Billie Salter third.

Next week will be Pennants 3 & 4 and training week two.
