History
The Club has been operating since 1968 and has an interesting history of many dedicated members volunteering their time,
services and helping the club out over the years. All of the current infastructure was built by club members hard work and
Mac Story has committed to documenting the early history of the club to produce a book. Anyone with stories or photos of
the early history (say up to 1985) please contact Mac or myself (Steve Miller) so we can colate all the items.
Note the "History wall" in the background of the above photo which is the starting point of the book.
Mac Story has been gathering history items for 'MPYC The First Ten Years' since the 40th anniversary and welcomes more
personal contributions relating to that era. Records after the first ten years appear to be unavailable. Any help in gathering
Cttee records or Sailing Cttee records will assist in making sure information is correct and/or allow us to extend the history
forwards from just the first ten years. There are also reports of two prior attempts to establish a sailing club.
Information on these attempts is welcome.
Mac initiated Club activities by knocking on doors around Midway Point and running a trophy race in February 1968 prior to
inviting sailors to a meeting in the Pine Forest. Mac then led the Club for the first 4 seasons.
In 1972, his work and study took him away from Midway Point. A lot of folk made big contributions, or just enjoyed the sailing
competition.
We are very keen to hear from as many old members as possible.
