Published Sun 15 Oct 2017

A near perfect day kicked off with Training from 9:00 a delayed start to the Morning Trophy and in the afternoon Pennant one which was also the resail of the Scott Miller Memorial Trophy race.

The short Morning Trophy race got away at 11:58 with a fleet of two Bics, two Sabres two NS14s and two B14s in a NW breeze of 12 knots and gusts to 17knots.

Phantom got a jump right from the start and despite a spinnaker issue on the last triangle managed to hold off Bang Bang for line honors as well as handicap honours.

It was good to see the Bics out on the water racing though they just completed the one lap.

The Sabres did two laps and the rest of the fleet 3 laps Serenity sailing one up was the first NS14 and Rocket Man the first Sabre with Wind Wizard retiring with a broken tiller.

On handicap it was Phantom Steve Miller and Lauren Bird first Bumps Josh Eggins and Aiden Wilkie second with Bang Bang Stephen Mitchell and Adrian Bell third.

The afternoon race got away at 14:12 with the NW breeze hanging on and an increased fleet of four Sabres four NS14s and two B14s on a skewed line as the breeze contined to die and slowley swing into the west ready for the sea breeze to come in.

It was a hectic start with half the fleet sailing along the line close hauled on starboard and the rest trying to squeeze through the gaps.

The boats that went left gained and at the top mark Serenity was first around from the Avengers then Bang Bang and by now the breeze was dying right away as well as swinging to the west.

As the leading boats rounded the wing make the sea breeze was on its way and began to fill in from the South turning the course upside down for the rest of the race.

As the breeze filled in back up to 15 knots with bigger gusts the B14s moved up to Serenitywho until then had held a large lead and once around the now windward mark the B14s finally with the kite up easily moved into the lead with Phantom ahead of Bang Bang.

In the Sabres Grasshopper was having a good tussle with Wasabi with a break over the others.

Phantom kept Bang Bang at bay for the balance of the race taking line honours by 40 seconds and Serenity well clear of Pumpkin Eater ahead of the Avengers and Hedgehog next,

In the Sabres Grasshopper held a slim lead all the way to the last mark with a short dash to the finish but Wasabi came around on the inside and slid through to take the race by a second.
