50th Anniversary Dinner 17th February 2018

Published Fri 12 Jan 2018

This season marks the 50th anniversary of the first race at Midway Point to gauge how much interest there was in forming a Yacht Club.

The rest is history with the club forming and soon moving to the current site having initially sailed from the jetty at the end of Garden Lane in the unsuitable water to the south of Midway.

Next races were run from the main beach (below McKinly St) on the section of the bay we now use.

Very quickly so we could move to the current site an access ramp and some leveled areas were created and then the initial boat shed, which has only this season been removed and replaced with a new shed, was constructed.

Within a couple of years the shed was extended to create a canteen and soon again extended to create the initial club house.

To celebrate the occasion we are holding a dinner at the new club house onSaturday 17th February and all old and new members are warmly invited.

Dinner starts at 18:30 (6:30 pm) so come along and enjoy the company and I am sure some tall tales from the past.

Please pass the word as we do not have contact details of most of our former members who have moved out of the area.

The following day Sunday 18th a special race will be held recreating one of the old courses as sailed  back at the beggining of the club, perhaps participants should ditch the wetsuits gloves etc and go out in jeans and a jumper with a capoc life jacket?

Dinner Tickets are $30.00 per head and can be ordered by contacting either Byron Johnson on 0400 239 981 or Steve Miller on 0406 864 602 please book ASAP as we need to arrange the catering.
