Anchor Wetsuits Trophy and Pennant 1 resail training week 2 week

Published Sun 22 Oct 2023

With a lightening strike on Midway over night that took out the power we awoke to a blue sky being the dead centre of the low with lots of possibilites for what the day might bring.

In the morning the trainees had some rope throwing practice and then went out in the pacers learning to steer a paddle powered boat and then towed by the rescue boat.

Later after lunch we headed out into a very light breeze and eventually got away at 13:16 in a light SE breeze with a combined fleet of five Sabres four NS14s and four B14s.

The breeze stayed pretty light and during the final lap the race officer decided to shorten the course at the wing mark, with such a light breeze the fleet did not spread out much.

First home was the 49er then Early Warning and later Phantom, Noiseworks after a great race was first NS home then Sundaze with Apisca first Sabre.

On handicap it was

1th Noiseworks Stephen Townsend & Jayden Gadischke 2nd Loose Change Phil Bloomfield and 3rd Raptor Scott Wilkie.

After a long wait for the stragglers to finish and then reset the start line and re lay all the marks the Sabres got away at 15:10 in a very light SE breeze of 5 knots or less then the NS14s at 15:13 and finally the B14s at 15:16 and the first half of the first leg was very slow but by then the fleet had all converged when the breeze swang to the right SW and built a little to see the pace pick up a bit. The first boats to hook into the new breeze were set as it became a 2 sail reach one way and 3 sail reach the other for the B14s but no actual windward for any class for the balance of the race.

First home was the 49er with Fletch and Charlie back on the water and despite tea bagging the kite a couple of times which let the next boats close the gap followed by Early Warning and then  Jumpin Jack Flash who sailed well. In the NS14s it was Sundaze from Avengers who sailed very well then Noiseworks and in the Sabres Apisca first home with a good lead over Loose Change and Raptor third.
