Anchor Wetsuits Trophy and week two of training.

Published Sun 23 Oct 2022

Week two of training saw the beginners paddle and steer around a short course and the more advanced trainers out on the water but only observing. The Anchor wetsuits Trophy was sailed in cool conditions but in the end a nice little breeze and got away at 13:21 in a 10-15 knont SSE breeze with a fleet of five Sabres five NS14s and just one B14.

The pin end  of the line was favoured so most boats headed that way with Viva la Vida crossing the line on port and then stayed on that tack to the starboard lay line, much of the fleet ended overstanding the port lay line and it was only Phantom ahead of Viva at the top mark. TBA Chris Keil after a long capsize before the start recovered well to lead the Sabres with Sweet Disposition Lauren Keil on her first sail for the season next.

Phantom extended the lead progressivly and lapped the Sabre fleet heading to windward at the start of the final lap and Serenity moved through Viva to take over second spot.

By the finish it was Phantom first home eight minutes clear of Serenity with Viva la Vida next 30 odd seconds in arears and a minute clear of Under the Radar. In the sabres it was TBA Chris Keil first home nearly three minutes ahead of Sweet Disposition who was nearly two minutes clear of Apisca.

The final result on handicap was:

Serenity Scott Wilkie and Sarah Haywood first Phantom Steve Miller and Roger Jacksion second and TBA Chris Keil third.

It was great to see some more new faces at the club today and everyone enjoyed the race despite it being a bit cool.

Next week is Pennant 5 & 6 and week three of training.
