The day got away early with an excellent turn out of trainees with many staying on to sail in the morning race in the Bics.
It was great to see all four Bics out racing in the early race, with Georgia Ottway in her first race as a skipper Hamish was back on the water as was Alistair two up with Lucas and new comer Claire finding the boat a bit slow with the bungs undone and needing a trip ashore to lighten the load a bit. Only two senior boats took part with Phantom and Rocket Man making up the fleet that got away late after a bit of uncertainty.
Phantom was soon well in the lead but the breeze dropped significantly and the race was shortened with Rocket Man Marlene Nichols taking line honors at the end of the first lap while Phantom was becalmed half way round the second lap the Bic's battled on to finish their lap with Hamish first home from Georgia and Alistair in third with Clare retiring.
With Helen threatening to start on time the afternoon race had a good fleet of eight Sabres and two B14s but some of the fleet were only just on the water before the start with Mick Semelbauer pulling out early.
Phantom was soon well in the lead to lap the entire fleet next was Buzz followed by Fr'alan who came from behind Loose Change who had a good start but dropped back to also let The Apprentice through but held off Wasabi a minute clear of Wind Wizard with Tony VanGalen giving a Sabre a try and Rocket Man a fair way back and LMG timed out.
Race two got away at 15:19 and though the breeze had picked up a bit it was again on the wane and very unstable making for a tricky race. Phantom again was well ahead but despite lapping all the sabres on the second lap it was a very slow last lap opening the door for the other boats, Buzz sailed much better and finished just under 6 minutes astern of Phantom Fr'alan sailed well to be under three minutes further astern and three minutes ahead of The Apprentice who was three minutes ahead of Wasabi.
Loose Change was well back and Rocket Man and LMG staged a close finish with LMG home by six seconds.
