Christmas break up day 2017

Published Mon 18 Dec 2017

It was great to finish the first half of the season with a beautiful day and a nice breeze and a good turn up.

No training today but the trainees will be back after the break to get into learn to race mode.

It was also good to see Tony VanGalen back on the water after his accident at the Pittwater Regatta and also Dave in AUS 226 out on the water getting the feel of the boat.

A good fleet of six NS 14s three Sabres three B14s and a cat and Bic faced the starter at 11:36 with a nice SE breeze of 12-14 knots with gusts a bit stronger. There were a number of boats on the line at the start with Phantom soon clear ahead and with a good lead by the top mark, Bang Bang was next but only just clear of Serenity, Pumpkin Eater and Aquaholic and Wasabi was first of the Sabres.

Unfortunately Jumpin Jack Flash was inverted at start time and got away very late afrer tidying up the mess. Lucas in the bic had tried sailing without a bung and found it didn't help and so had returned to shore to fix that and also started late and then Bumps with Caitlin Eggins retired before the start.

Phantom extended the lead at nearly every mark to come home more than the last leg, over 3 minutes clear of Bang Bang with Serenity first of the NS14s sailed one up by Scott Wilkie and Pumpkin Eater next with Josh Eggins at the helm and Wasabi Guy McDougall well clear in the Sabres from Georgia Verrier in Little Miss Giggles who was just clear of the ever improving Marlene Nichols in Rocket Man.

Handicap Result

Phantom Steve Miller & Lauren Bird first, Rocket Man Marlene Nichols second and Bang Bang Stephen Mitchell and Adrian Bell third.

Next was BBQ lunch enjoyed by everyone and a bit later Santa arrived to hand out presents to the little ones.

A bit of fun was had in the water on the tube towed behing Pittwater Trainer while the rest of us sat back with a drink to discuss the season so far and what is coming up next.

Many of our sailors and their boats will be heading off to sail in Nationals over the Christmas New Year break and in the case of our B14s also the Worlds at Port Dalrymple Yacht Club at Beauty Point we wish them all good luck and good sailing and see you back at the club on the 14th of January.
