Christmas Break up day Dec 16th 2018

Published Sun 15 Dec 2019

The trainees took to the water for their final day of training and following a great lunch Santa paid us a visit to hand out gifts to the little and not so little ones.

The clubs Christmas Hamper was also drawn.

We rounded out the day with the Allsands Mini series however due to the wind not co operating shortened the original five races to three of which we only managed to get two races complete.

The first (short) race kicked off at 14:18 in a nice NW breeze of about 8-10 knots with stronger gusts at first. The two NS14s started on port and crossed the fleet however Phantom and Bang Bang soon were in the lead with Phantom  just around the top mark ahead of  Bang Bang and Viva la Vida next. The two B14s had a close drag to the wing mark but Phantom was around cleaner and nearly laid the bottom mark where Bang Bang had to drop the kite early.

LMG was ahead of Rocket Man and Viva la Vida was holding off Sundaze.

At the finish it was Phantom Steve Miller and Scott Foster with a nice lead over Bang Bang and Viva la Vida over Sundaze with LMG home from Rocket Man and the two Bics both retired.

The second Race got away at 14:46 in a lighter NW breeze that was dieing quickly.

It was good the see Lucas Foerder in the Bic out for the second start and this time the two NS's and one B14 all started on port but LMG started on starboard at that end of the line forcing a couple of boats to duck her stern.

By the top mark Phantom had a nice lead but ran into very light air at the top mark and just got around while Bang Bang at first closed the gap but misjudged the tide/breeze and was forced to have a second attempt at the rounding handing Phantom a substantial lead.

In the NS's Sundaze had the wood on Viva la Vida while LMG was ahead of Rocket Man but a long way back.

Phantom managed to hold some breeze to the wing mark and then down to the bottom mark and by then had a massive lead. Bang Bang got caught in the tide and both NS14s managed to get by.

By the finish Phantom had a huge lead and Sundaze eventually drifted home nearly 12 minutes later while Bang Bang and Viva la Vida waited for the breeze to come back in and covered the last leg quite quickly.

The Sabres got stuck in the tide between the wing mark and the bottom mark and were towed home and the bic only got to the top mark and then headed home.

Race one handicap.

Equal first LMG Michael Verrier and Phantom Steve Miller and Scott Foster equal third Viva la Vida Darren Eggins and Georgia Ottway and Bang Bang Stephen Mitchell and Tony VanGalen.

Race two handicap

First Phantom second Sundaze Sam and Lindy Bailey and third Viva la Vida

Overall Phantom from LMG and Viva la Vida split on a contback.

Merry Christmas everyone see you in the New Year.
