Elsey Trophy 2021

Published Sun 14 Mar 2021

After a lunch provided by the Elsey family the fleet headed out for a race which got away at 13:35.

The fleet consisted of six NS14s including Under the Radar with new owner Melinda Lord at the helm two B14s one Sabre and a cat.

It was an even start but the breeze was pretty tricky and many of the fleet soon tacked off on port and picked up a lift back on starboard putting both B14s well back and seeing Sundaze around the first mark well clear of Under the Radar doing well in second and Early Warning next followed by Phantom.

By the bottom mark Early Warning was in the lead with Sundaze still second followed by Phantom and Under the Radar still clear of Viva la Vida and Aquaholic enjoying the down wind legs next.

At the top mark the next time it was Early Warning with a good lead over Sundaze and Phantom which had a good down wind and the two B14s were close at the bottom mark, Serenity with Scott Wilkie sailing one up was doing a great job in the crazy conditions.

The final windward was again a tricky leg with Phantom coming out on top to round the top mark for the final time with a lead over Early Warning and Sundaze not far back and Under ther Rader still next.

On the final two legs Early Warning carried the kite most of the journey to finish a minute ahead of Phantom who dropped the kite in the water on the hoist and Sundaze only a minute and a half in arrears.

Under the Radar was next ten seconds clear of Aquaholic then  Viva la Vida only 8 seconds furthur back..

On handicap it was

First Sundaze Sam and Lindy Bailey who sailed a great race, second Pumpkin Eater Josh Eggins and Natasha Wilkie and Viva la Vida Darren Eggins and Alastair Lord third.
