The day kicked off with the trainees out on the water an a very light breeze.
There was no morning race and the afternoon Orbit Lighting Trophy race got away at exactly 14:00 in a steady 9-10 knot Southerly with occasional gust to 12 or so knots.
The fleet was small but notable as there were more B14s than any other class with four B's and two Sabres.
From the even start Early Warning who was right on the money on the line continued well in shore Phantom went up the middle and Bang Bang tacked early out into the incoming tide but at the top mark it was Bang Bang from Phantom then Buzz and Early Warning last of the B's.
In the Sabres Rocket Man held a lead over Loose Change. The boats pretty much held position with Phantom pushing Bang Bang but not getting through and Early Warning closing on Buzz.
Up the second windward the boats that went left picked up some ground.
The relative gaps changed as the race went on and eventually Early Warning got through Buzz as did Loose Change over Rocket Man.
By the finish despite a last lunge at the bottom mark Bang Bang held on for a comfortable 30+ second lead over Phantom with Early Warning a bit over 3 minutes astern and 3 ahead of Buzz.
In the Sabres Loose Change had a 2+ minute win over Rocket Man.
The race was also notable as Adrianne Daley had her first sail back in a B with Jack in Buzz and Michael Verrier had a go as crew on Early Warning not to mention Tony VanGalen in the first B home Bang Bang for his return to B14 racing this season.
On handicap the results were
1st Rocket Man Marlene Nichols
2nd Buzz Jack Whittle & Adrianne Daley
3rd Bang Bang Stephen Mitchell & Tony VanGalen
