Pennant 11 & 12

Published Sun 03 Apr 2022

The Race Training crew were back on the water in the morning for one last sail though there was little to no breeze.

After lunch a good fleet of five Sabres five NS14s two B14s and a cat headed out for the final pennant races for the season.

Pennant 11 started at 13:10 in a light 6 knot SSE breeze with an occasional gust to about 8 knots. With three of the NS14s sailing one up (with jib) they proved much quicker in the light breeze and pushed the B14's to the top mark. In the Sabres it was great to see Wetas Jo-Anne Verrier up front with About Time Chris Keil and at the finish it was just an boat length that separated the boats. In Div 2 Phantom continued to pull away to be home six and a half minutes clear of Bang Bang with trainee Sarah Krulow up front and  Sundaze (one up) next a minute furthur back. Viva la Vida also sailing one up beat Serenity home which is unusual in light conditions proving the benefit of sailing one up. In the Sabres Wasabi followed Wettas ahead of Loose Change with Wind Wizard well back.

On Yardstick

Div 1 About Time Chris Keil first Wettas Jo-Anne Verrier second and Wasabi Guy McDougall third.

Div 2 Phantom Steve Miller and Sarah Haywood first Sundaze Sam Bailey second and Viva la Vida Darren Eggins third.

Handicap

Div 1 Wettas first Wasabi second and Loose Change Phil Bloomfield third.

Pennant 12

The race got away at 14:27 in a building SSE breeze of about 8 knots but closer to 10 later in the race and gusts to about 13 knots later in the race.

After a pretty even start again the one up NS's had the edge on the other NS's and Phantom was first at the top mark, in the Sabres it was pretty close with Wasabi up front early. As in the earlier race Phantom pulled well ahead and ended up six minutes clear of Bang Bang with Sundaze again leading the NS fleet home two and a half minutes furthur back. Next was Viva la Vida again ahead of Serenity. In the Sabres it was About Time just 12 seconds ahead of Wasabi with Wetas next one and a half minutes ahead of Loose Change a similar time ahead of Wind Wizard a great effort by Sarah Michael.

On Yardstick

Div 2 Phantom first Sundaze second and Viva la Vida third.
