Pennant 11 & 12 and Race training

Published Sun 02 Mar 2025

A great session with the boats out doing race training this time starts with flags hooters etc on the water with the start boat 6 or 7 boats taking part.

After lunch we had Pennants 11 & 12 with a solid fleet of six Sabres four NS14s three B14s and three windsurfers.

The first attempt got away about on time but by the time the third start got away the wind had moved well into the south (from NW) and Helen had no choise but to abandon the race during the first lap and  move the start boat and re lay the course.

The second attempt got away from 14:07 with the Sabres and Windsurfers followed by the NS14s at 14:10 and B14s at 14:13 in a building SSE breeze of around 12-14 knots with bigger gusts later in the race with wind to 17knots and gusts in the low 20s. In the Sabres TBA Chris Keil took the gun 37 sec clear of Sweet Disposition with Apisca in third a bit over 2 minutes astern.

In the NS14s Sundaze held off Viva la Vida by 49 seconds with Noiseworks over 3 1/2 minutes astern.

In the B14s Bondi Tram who has sailed very little so far this season had a swin in the abandoned race and decided to ventilate the main and was forced to retire. The remaining boats Phantom and Jumpin Jack Flash had a great race neck and neck most of the way but on the final lap JJF capsized on the jibe and DNF.

In the Windurfers it was Guilaume Galibert first boat in the fleet to finish 8 seconds clear of Greg Pollard with Dan Ford not finishing.

Pennant 11 Sabres TBA Chris Keil first Sweet Disposition Lauren Pitt second and Apisca Jo-Anne Verrier third. Handicap Wind Wizard Sarah Michael first Loose Change Phil Bloomfield second and  Sweet Disposition third.

NS14s Sundaze Sam & Lindy Bailey first Viva la Vida Darren Eggins and Spencer Nelson second and Noiseworks Stephen Townsend and Hunter Howe third. Handicap Viva la Vida first Sundaze second and Noiseworks third.

The second race got away with a much reduced fleet with Avengers, Wind Wizard, Phantom, Noiseworks, Micks Boat and Bondi Tram all ashore or heading in.

The rest of the fleet got away from 15:27 in a now fresh SE breeze but it did drop as the race progressed.

In the Sabres Sweet Disposition got revenge on TBA with a win by 8 seconds with Apisca in third a bit over 3 minutes astern.

In the NS14s only two boats remained with Viva la Vida getting the gun by 20 seconds from Sundaze.

In the B14s it was a no result with the only starter retiring.
