Pennant 7 & 8

Published Sun 22 Nov 2020

Another great day on the water for the trainees with a nice (gentle) breeze and plenty of time on the water.
After Lunch Pennant races 7 & 8 back to back with almost perfect conditions.

At the end of training the wind died to nothing and it looked like we would struggle to get the races in.

However the breeze slowly built and by the time a course was set we had a nice steady 15Knots with bigger gusts SSE breeze.

The first race got away at 13::36 with a great fleet of seven NS14s four Sabres and three B14s.

With a shortish start line and 14 boats it was a tight start but all clear.

Josh Eggins and Natasha Wilkie in new boat Just Ice were moving well on the first windward right at the front of the NS fleet. About Time soon moved into the lead in the Sabres and held that lead all race.

In the B14s despite a poor start Phantom moved into the lead by the top mark holding the lead all race.

By the finish Phantom was first home from Bang Bang with Early Warning next.

The NS's were led home by Serenity next was Just Ice and next Viva la Vida.

Sabres were About Time from Wasabi just three seconds clear of Loose Change.

The second race got away at 14:43 in a lighter breeze of closer to 10-12 knots gradually dropping.

It was another good start with the exception of Loose Change who clipped the pin end mark and had to re round.

Again The seven NS14s had a good race this time Hedgehog did well being right at the front just astern of Serenity. The Sabres were again headed by About Time just clear of Wasabi.

The B14s were closer with Phantom moving into the lead at the top mark just ahead of Early Warning neck and neck with Bang Bang.

On the second down wind leg Bang Bang got through to the lead but could not hold on to windward.

By the finish it was Phantom first from Early Warning and Bang Bang next, in the NS14's Serenity first from Just Ice with Viva la Vida next.

About Time took out the Sabres from Wasabi with Loose Change next.
