Pennant 7 & 8 re sail 27th March 2022

Published Sun 27 Mar 2022

The start was delayed while a couple of quick rescues took place and we got away at 13:30 with five Sabres a B14 an NS14 and the Bic.

At the start the Northerly breeze was a solid 12-15 knots with gusts into the 20s and some substantial wind shifts especially alone the Eastern side of the course near shore.

The B14 soon had a substantial lead and had some great rides with the kite. Chris Keil got a good start in the Sabres and held a strong lead all race while the other remaining Sabres had a good battle and at the finish it was About Time II from Sweet Disposition and Loose Change ahead of Wasabi. Phantom was first home with a 16 minute lead over Norwegian Blue.

Jayden Gadeschke stuck it out well to sail two laps in the BIC in verity trying conditions and stayed out on the water for the second race.

Div 1 Yardstick

About Time Chris Keil first, Sweet Disposition Lauren Keil second, and Loose Change Phil Bloomfield third.

Handicap Wasabi Guy McDougall first, About Time second, and Loose Change third.

Div 2 Yardstick & Handicap Phantom Steve Miller and Roger Jackson first, Norwegian Blue Stephen Townsend and Sarah Krulow second.

Race 2 got away at 14:30 in similar conditions to race one with if anything slightly more pressure and some substantial wind shifts and gusts.

It was again Phantom and About Time getting the best of the start and soon clearing out from the others. The other three Sabres again had a great tussle in the challenging conditions and this time About Time from Sweet Disposition with Wasabi ahead of Loose Change. Phantom was again 16 minutes clear of Norwegian Blue and Jayden finished the race again which was a great effort.

Div 1 Yardstick About Time first Sweet Disposition second and Wasabi third.

Handicap About Time first Wasabi second and Loose Change third.

Div 2 Yardstick and Handicap Phantom first and Norwegian Blue second.

A special mention to Michael Verrier, Perry Caulfield and later Stephen Mitchell in the rescue boat who had their hands full with crew rescues, boat salvage and bouy laying.

Next week is the final two Pennants and the following week is break up day with fun events including an Easter egg hunt and a Pursuit Race to finish off the season.
