Pennant 9 & 10 Race training week 2

Published Sun 23 Jan 2022

With Bics, Sabres and Pacers it was a  great sight in the morning, the hot weather had water craft of all sorts out on the water and even a number of people on the beach.

Pennant 9 got away in a beautiful 15 knot SSE breeze with gusts to 18 knots, the air temp was 25+ and water at 23 so superb. An excellent fleet of six NS14s four Sabres and two B14s took the gun at 13:19 and it was a good even start. With boats going both to Starboard and Port at the top mark as expected it was the B14s Phantom from Bang Bang with the bulk of the NS14 bunched up at the top mark and in the Sabres Sweet Disposition soon had a nice break.

The conditions were perfect for the B14s who raced around the course in the nice stable conditions and by the end Phantom had a nice nearly 4 minute break from Bang Bang with  Serenity clear of Viva la Vida as first NS14 and Sweet Disposition over 4 1/2 minutes clear of Loose Change just ahead of Wasabi.

The perfect weather continued for the second race with perhaps a touch more breeze.

The fleet got away at 14:35 with one less boat as Pumpkin Eater Josh Eggins having retired in the first race and returned to shore.

For some reason the whole fleet were sitting back a bit and everyone was a few seconds late for the start and a similar pattern to race one though Bang Bang was not second at the top mark but again with the kites up in the fresh breeze the B14s blasted away from the rest of the fleet.

Again Sweet Disposition got away from the other Sabres and Serenity held off Viva la Vida in the NS14s.

At the finish it was Phantom two and a half minutes clear of Bang Bang then Serenity a bit over 6 minutes back and Viva la Vida another one and a half behind. In the Sabres Sweet Disposition just over two minutes ahead of Wasabi and Loose Change just 27 seconds astern.

Div 1

Next week with most boats away at Lindisfarne we will still be running "Race Training" in the morning but we may not have enough starters to warrant a race in the afternoon.
