Pennant two October 21st 2018

Published Sun 21 Oct 2018

A big thank you the Helen Eggins for taking the time and effort to set up an on water start for the pennant making for a great and fair race for everyone.

The day kicked off with all the trainees on the water in Bics and Pacers courtesy of the help from Lindisfarne with two Pacers while we await the arrival of our new boats.

At 11:56 the AM race got away with just three starters seeing Phantom lead (just) all the way from Serenity but Marlene in Rocket Man who sailed just the two laps and had the time adjusted got the win on handicap.

After lunch and with the sea breeze settled in we all sailed out to the start boat for a bit of a treat with a mid river start.

It was a good clean start with Early Warning Ross Daley and Bea Thurston Regar Phantom and Viva la Vida very close heading out to the left. By the top mark Early Warning had squeezed up and got through on the inside of Phantom with Viva la Vida next.

In the Sabres it was a close tussle with The Apprentice around ahead of Wasabi. Soon after the rounding Phantom got through Early Warning and by the bottom mark had a reasonable lead which was extended as the race progressed.

Viva la Vida held off Serenity around the first lap but surrendered the lead up the second windward and saw Serenity slowly build a lead.

In the sabres The Apprentice once clear of Wasabi build a solid lead as the race progressed, Buzz sailed by Jack Whittle and wife Lana had a battle with the leading NS's but like the rest of the fleet the gap slowly extended.

By the finish Phantom had a solid three minute lead over Early Warning who was seven minutes clear of Serenity seventeen seconds clear of Viva la Vida.

Next was Buzz a minute and a half back and just over three minutes clear of The Hedgehog.

The Apprentice was first Sabre one and a half minutes clear of Wasabi who held a nearly five minute lead over Loose Change over six minutes clear of LMG with Rocket Man last home.
