A reasonable day for the first week of training with the beginners getting a tour of the club and on the rescue boat a tour of the bay. The more advanced group got out on the water in a cool and slightly fresh breeze but all went well.
Followed by Pennants 3 & 4 sailed in very changeable conditions.
Pennant 3 got away at 13:27 after the breeze refused to settle down.
It was great to see Sara Krulow out on the water with Stephen Townsend in Noiseworks and Shyla Kupis on her first day at the club out with Scott Wilkie in Serenity.
The weather certainly made it interesting with sun, rain, no wind solid puffs and multiple changes in direction keeping everyone on their toes.
At the finish it was Phantom nearly 3 minutes ahead of Early Earning with Bang Bang just 13 seconds furthur astern, next was Under the Radar doing realy well to be just under two minutes furthur astern and clear of Aquaholic with Viva la Vida another five minutes furthur back.
In Div 1 Wasabi held off Apisca by 20 seconds with Loose Change another forty seconds further astern.
On Yardstick
Div 1 Wasabi Guy McDougall first Apisca Jo-Anne Verrier second and Loose Change Phil Bloomfield third.
Div 2 Under the Radar Melinda Lord and Georgia Ottway first Phantom Steve Miller & Roger Jackson second and Viva la Vida Darren Eggins and Alastair Lord third.
On Handicap
Div 1 Wasabi first Apisca second and Loose Change third.
Div 2 Under the Radar first, Aquaholic Perry Caulfield second and Bang Bang Stephen Mitchell and Adrianne Daley third.
Pennant 4 got away at 15:20 after a substantial break waiting for the wind to settle down, it didn't so we had to make a start and hope for the best.
It ended up a very tricky race with big wind shifts and everything from dead calm to quite substantial puffs if only short lived.
It was a fairly even start but Early Warning started right on the pin and with a big left hand swing in the breeze soon cleared out to a substantial lead over the rest of the fleet. It was pretty hard going with no real paterrn to the wind shifts.
At the finish which was moved to the wing mark on the last lap, as it was starting to get a bit late, it was Early Warning hanging on but Phantom roaring home to significantly close the gap but was still a minute and a half astern. There was then a big gap of 10 minutes to Bang Bang and another four and a half minutes to Viva la Vida who just got Under the Radar on the line by six seconds.
In the Sabres it was Wasabi with a solid win of seven minutes over Loose Change thirteen seconds clear of Apisca.
On Yardstick
Div 1 Wasabi first Loose Change second and Apisca third.
Div 2 Early Warning first Phantom second and Viva la Vida third.
On Handicap
Div 1 Wasabi first Loose Change second and Apisca third.
Div 2 Early Warning first Phantom second and Under the Radar third.
Next week it is the Anchor Wetsuits Trophy.
