Pennants 5 & 6

Published Sun 08 Dec 2019

With the trainees able to get on the water on their own in a light breeze it was a perfect day for the trainees.

With an early start there were two Pennants run back to back in the afternoon with a full size course and very pleasant breeze.

With a steady 12-14 knot SE breeze with gusts 15-17 it was nice treat after the nasty Westerlies of the past two months.

In the B14s Phantom sailed one up and Bang Bang only had a crew for the first race, the NS14s also did a shuffle of crews between races with three of the four boats either exchanging, replacing or going one up in the second race.

The fleet got away cleanly with just Phantom late to the line and crossing well after the rest of the flaat.

Early Warning and Bang Bang had a good battle at the front of the fleet with Bang bang Stephen Mitchell and Fill in crew Axel Foerder getting the win from Early Warning with the first NS14 Serenity only seven minutes astern then Phantom struggling one up in the building breeze.

In the Sabres Chris Keil held on to win by just 7 seconds from Guy McDougal in Wasabi.

On yardstick the result was

Rocket Man decided not to contest the second race and Bang Bang also returned to shore, Serenity, Viva la Vida and Pumpkin Eater all either swapped crews or in the case of Pumpkin Eater sailed one up.

This race Early Warning got off to a clean start and extended the lead at every turn to end up with a nine minute lead over the first NS Serenity who was just clear of Sundaze ahead of Viva la Vida. Phantom has a spinnaker problem capsized and retired. In the Sabres Wasabi had been leading the fleet but let About Time through at the finish.
