No morning race just a practice sail.
In the afternoon however a fleet of six NS14s three Sabres and two B14s took to the water for a short (very short) course series of 3 races.
Race one got away at 14:05 in a nice Southerly breeze of 10-15 knots and gust a bit higher with most of the fleet on starboard and Phantom at the other end tacking and just crossing the fleet but as it was close chase to do a turn.
At the top mark Bang Bang was first just ahead of Phantom with Serenity next.
The legs were very short putting preasure on the crews to be very clean especially the B's with spinnakers to hoist jybe and drop in quick succession especially Clive Evans who was up front on Phantom for the first time and did a great job.
After a quick three laps it was Phantomfirst home from Bang Bang with Bumpsnext followed by Serenity. in the SabresWasabi held off Grasshopper by 3 seconds.
On handicap it was Rocket Man Marlene Nichols first Bumps Josh Eggins and Aiden Wilkie second and Wasabi Guy McDougall third.
Race two got away at 14:41 in similar conditions and the same fleet.
Again the whole fleet started on starboard with Spinifex well up and Bang Bang again first to the top mark from Phantom andSpinifex not far back.
On the second spinaker leg Phantom tried to pass Bang Bang at the drop but came too close and in avoiding a collision managed to capsize.
Bang Bang held on for line honours andPhantom fought back to be second home but 28 seconds back, Spinifex was next ahead of Serenity and this timeGrasshopper Lucas Upton had a nine second win over Wasabi.
On handicap it was
Bang Bang Stephen Mitchell and Adrian Bell first Serenity Scott Wilkie and Vicki Hine second and Spinifex Peter and Karen Davis third.
Race three got away at 15:13 in a slightly stronger wind of 12-16 with gusts to 18 knots.
Again the boats all started on starboard but with a bit more preasure a few were early with Bang Bang and Pumpkin EaterOCS but not going back and Bumps a non starter.
This time at the top mark Spinifex was first with Phantom squeezed out at the starboard end of the line and Bang Bangcaught in traffic.
After a big wine glass at the hoist Phantomdropped way back and slowed Bang Bangso now Spinifex Serenity and Hedgehogwere all ahead of the B's.
By the last lap the front of the pack was tight again with Spinifex still in the lead and with even more preasure and a shy leg saw Phantom two sail first and then struggle to the wing mark a quick dash and drop saw Phantom first into the bottom mark and held on for the win withSpinifex a mere 20 seconds astern andSerenity nearly a minute back.
In the Sabres Grasshopper was 13 seconds clear of Wasabi.
On handicap the result was
Spinifex first Serenity second andHedgehog third.
Overall
Serenity Scott Wilkie and Vicky Hine 4-2-2=8 first
Rocket Man Marlene Nichols 1-7-6=14 second
Spinifex Peter & Karen Davis 11-3-1=15 third
