Training week 6 and Trophy (mini series) races.

Published Sun 16 Nov 2025

The Trainees had a great day on the water with a light and steady breeze giving them a great opportunity to practice various manoeuvres and learning to control the boats. After lunch we tried to have a 5 race mini series but a thunder storm cut the session short.

Race 1 got away exactly on time at 13:30 with a fleet of five Sabres three NS14s and two B14s in a steady 8-10 knot S to SE breeze.

With such a steady breeze it was a great opportunity for everyone to fine tune their starting and boat handling and get the maximum boat speed.

The B14s soon cleared out but with Jumpin' Jack Flash heading on a sausage first lap and needing to back track they ended up well back in the fleet. By the finish it was Phantom first Spinifex second and Viva la Vida third just a second clear of Serenity. In the Sabrers Wasabi was first home.

On handicap it was Phantom Steve Miller and Safiya Davidson first Wind Wizard Sarah Michael second and Viva la Vida Darren Eggins and Billie Nelson in third.

Race 2 got away imediately following the last boat finishing race 1 and the breeze was still a steady SSE with the B14s again clearing out and this time was a close race to the finish with Phantom first Jumpin' Jack Flash second and Serenity third just three seconds ahead of Spinifex. The first Sabre was TBA over a minute clear of Wasabi.

On handicap it was Phantom first Jumpin' Jack Flash Roger Jackson and Luke Verceli second and Wind Wizard third.

The third race got away at 14:44 in a now building breeze and the rain had started and was increasing. This was the quickest of the races and as it progressed the breeze shifted more into the west and increased to 13 knots with gusts to about 17knots.

Phantom again took the gun but with a much reduced lead over the other classes, Jumpin' Jack Flash was second and Serenity next just 40 seconds astern with Spinifex another minute behind. The first Sabre was TBA again with Wasabi just over a minute astern.

On handicap it was Wind Wizard first Serenity Scott Wilkie and Isobel Healey second with TBA Chris Keil third.

While the tail enders were finishing the rain increased and there was a thunder storm breaking out so the RO send everyone ashore and we shortened the racing to three races.

Overall it was Wind Wizard Sarah Michael first 2-3-1 =6 Phantom Steve Miller & Safiya Davidson second 1-1-7=9 and Serenity Scott Wilkie & Isobel Healey third 6-6-2=14.

Next week is Training week 7 and Pennants 7 & 8.
