Trophy Race 27th October 2019

Published Sun 27 Oct 2019

The day started with the more advanced trainees on the water and new trainees going through some on shore drills.

After lunch the fleet of three B14's three NS14's and three Sabres took to the water in a variable W to SW breeze of 12-16 knots with gusts to 20 on a cool grey day.

The start was fairly even but shortly after the start a couple of boats went out to the right while the bulk of the fleet stayed on starboard out to the left.

By the top mark Bang Bang with ring in crew Scott Foster who had gone left had a substantial lead over Phantom and Early Warning who both went right.

First NS was Serenity Scott Wilkie with stand in crew Axel Foerder from Viva la Vida Darren Eggins and Alexander Lord and Pumpkin Eater Melinda Lord and Georgia Ottway not far behind. In the Sabres Wasabi Guy McDougall had a clear lead over Wind Wizard and Rocket Man retired.

As the first reach was quite shy the B14s delayed the hoist waiting for a better angle and retained there positions despite each taking a different approach.

By the last windward Bang Bang was still in the lead with both Phantom and Early Warning slowly closing, in the NS14s Serenity went left and both Viva la Vida and Pumpkin Eater managed to get through.

The sabres continued to spread furthur apart and on the final down wind legs Phantom closed on Bang Bang as the wind dropped and swang to the south but eventually Bang Bang ghosted over the line with a substantial time lead from Phantom then Early Warning who had several spinnaker issues over the course of the race.

The first NS home was Viva la Vida from Pumpkin Eater and Serenity in third with Wasabi over eight minutes clear of Wind Wizard.
